چکیده

MgB(pnpn ) 2 is classified as a system with strongly interacting σelectrons and non-correlated π-electrons of boron ions. The kinematic and Coulomb interaction V between the orbitally degenerated σ-electrons provide the superconducting state with an anisotropic gap of s*-wave symmetry. The critical temperature Tc has a non-monotonic dependence on the distance r between the centers of gravity of σand π-bands. MgB2 corresponds to r = 0.085 eV and V = 0.45 eV in our model with flat bands. The derived superconducting density of electronic states is in good agreement with available experimental and theoretical data. The possibilities for increasing Tc are discussed.

MgB2: superconductivity and pressure effects

The Ginzburg-Landau theory is presented for a two-band superconductor with emphasis on MgB2. Experiments are proposed which lead to identification of the possible scenarios: whether both σand π-bands superconduct or σ-alone. According to the second scenario a microscopic theory of superconducting MgB2 is proposed based on the strongly interacting σ-electrons and non-correlated π-electrons of bo...

Anisotropic s-wave superconductivity: comparison with experiments on MgB2 single crystals

– The recently discovered superconductivity in MgB2 has captured world attention due to its simple crystal structure and relatively high superconducting transition temperature Tc = 39K. It is generally accepted that it is phonon-mediated s-wave BCS-like superconductivity. Surprisingly, the strongly temperature dependent anisotropy of the upper critical field, observed experimentally in magnesiu...

Energy bandstructures of MgB2 and the related compounds

Energy band structures are calculated for the new superconductor MgB2 and the related compounds by using the LDA and an FLAPW method. It is found that the strong three dimensional network in low-lying π bands brings about two dimensional σ holes in MgB2, which should be responsible for the superconductivity. The de Haas-van Alphen frequencies and the cyclotron masses are obtained for the Fermi ...

Three-dimensional MgB2-type superconductivity in hole-doped diamond.

We substantiate by numerical and analytical calculations that the recently discovered superconductivity below 4 K in 3% boron-doped diamond is caused by electron-phonon coupling of the same type as in MgB2, albeit in three dimensions. Holes at the top of the zone-centered, degenerate sigma-bonding valence-band couple strongly to the optical bond-stretching modes. The increase from two to three ...

Prediction of high T(c) superconductivity in hole-doped LiBC.

The layered lithium borocarbide LiBC, isovalent with and structurally similar to the superconductor MgB2, is an insulator due to the modulation within the hexagonal layers (BC vs B2). We show that hole doping of LiBC results in Fermi surfaces of B-C p sigma character that couple very strongly to B-C bond stretching modes, precisely the features that lead to superconductivity at T(c) approximate...
